Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 Is Still One Of The Highest-Rated Games Of The Year Despite Falling Short Of The Originals

I feel like I say this every October, but this October is shaping up to be one of the busiest months in video game history for big new releases. Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 collection will kick things off, alongside the Ghost of Yotei, which drops on the same day, and its review scores paint an unsurprising picture.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are not only widely regarded to be the best 3D platformers of all time, but they're two of the highest-rated games ever, each of them scoring a 97 out of 100. Its repackaged collection, which includes additional content, albeit not much, alongside visual enhancements, doesn't quite measure up to those almost-impossible-to-match scores, but with a 90 on Metacritic and an 86 on OpenCritic, the collection is still right up there alongside some of the best-reviewed releases this year, and there have been a lot of them.
