Silent Hill f is a resounding success for Konami, with the newest entry in the legendary horror series earning plaudits from players and critics alike — the game currently holds an average critic score of 87 on review aggregator OpenCritic.
Silent Hill f has also been a commercial triumph, selling over a million copies in a day, hitting this milestone three times faster than the Silent Hill 2 Remake from Bloober Team.
This near-universal praise came as a surprise to series producer Motoi Okamoto, who was concerned the "challenging" elements of Silent Hill f would be off-putting to some players.
In an interview with IGN Japan (translated by Automaton), Okamoto explains that, despite the success of Silent Hill f, he won't be trying to replicate it in future entries in the series.
"Of course, that doesn't mean every future Silent Hill will be like Silent Hill f. Each one will have its own distinct flavour. We want to keep experimenting and be ambitious, both in terms of gameplay design and storytelling, so please look forward to the next Silent Hill as well," says Okamoto.
