Hades 2 finally launched out of early access last week and has proven to be a major hit, comfortably sitting at the edge of Steam's top 20 most-played games. But there's another indie sensation storming through the charts and quickly making a name for itself.
Cue Megabonk, the viral survivor roguelike that released two weeks ago. It might have debuted to a peak player count of only 2,000, but as word-of-mouth spread and popular streamers got their hands on the game, it jumped to over 40,000 players in less than a week, a number which doubled in just two days.
For comparison, Hades 2 is only slightly ahead with a peak player count of 82,947, a number which continues to decline, while Megabonk only continues to climb in popularity. Unsurprisingly, then, it looks set to surpass Supergiant's masterpiece and edge further into Steam's top 20.
To really put into perspective how impressive that milestone is, not only is Megabonk rivalling Hades 2, but it has doubled Balatro's all-time peak on Steam and surpassed even its Vampire Survivors roots, which sits just behind at a peak of 77,061.
