Bully was one of those games that has achieved near-mythical status. Not only was its setting unique, but the trademark Rockstar twist made it unlike anything we played before, or since. Add to that the fact that it never got a sequel, and the game became something truly special, living forever in our collective nostalgia.
Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser chalked the absence of a sequel down to "bandwidth issues." Apparently there was no time to work on the game with the team he had. However, a recent interview by Retro Gamer (via GamesRadar), a developer who worked on the game revealed that it was absolutely brutal.
"The memories of it are love-hate. It was a fun, weird, hellish, chaotic, awesome time," said Environment Artist on Bully, Andrew Wood. "I reflect back fondly on the people and the times and the crazy things we did after hours, but then I think about the stress." The studio went through some major crunch during the development cycle of the game, and this was before crunch was called out like it is today.
