Of course, millions of fans around the world adore The Simpsons Hit & Run. I’m certainly one of them, and I absolutely agree that this 2003 classic is in desperate need of a remake or sequel, unlikely as it is. Whatever devs want to do that will bring more of its GTA-lite shenanigans back into our lives.
It’s not my favorite The Simpsons game around, though. That honor actually goes to a title that was made seven years before, a unique one that brings a goofy grin to my face whenever I think about it: The Simpsons Cartoon Studio.
This 1996 release was, for my younger self, the ideal game. I was an enormous fan of the series at the time (bumbling antihero Homer is one of my favorite TV characters ever), and had a new PC that I was just starting to fall in love with gaming on.
As this was 1996, said PC was an enormous, boxy beast that cast a shadow the size of the Chrysler Building, but that’s immaterial. The important thing is that the game’s box proclaimed that I could “be a big shot cartoon director, man!" I was thoroughly sold from that line alone....
