What's Happening With The Final Fantasy 9 Remake? Leakers "Assume" It's On Ice

It's not looking good for the rumoured Final Fantasy 9 remake, as reputable leaker NateTheHate suggests that the project could be on permanent hold.

"I'd assume the game is on ice & the unknown is whether [Square Enix] will return to it or not," they posted on X, replying to a fan who was asking for updates on the project.

It was rumoured back in April that the remake would be called "Final Fantasy IX: Timeless Tale".

The remake was first mentioned four years ago, among the infamous Nvidia GeForce Now breach. At the time, the tech conglomerate, desperately trying to contain one of gaming's biggest leaks, claimed that the list of games was merely "speculative" and should not be taken as confirmation of their existence.

However, a good chunk of them have come to fruition, namely Helldivers 2, the Resident Evil 4 remake, and the GTA remastered trilogy, as well as PC ports of PlayStation exclusives, such as God of War and Returnal.

Looking at Square Enix specifically, not only was Final Fantasy 9 remake found among these supposedly 'speculative' games, but also the Final Fantasy Tactics remake, which just launched last month. It's clear that, at some point, Square...
