Trade evolutions have been a permanent fixture of the Pokemon series. Things have come a long way since needing a physical cable in order to complete these trades, but for as long as Pokemon has existed, so have trade evolutions. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is no different in this regard.
If you're after a Machamp, Alakazam, or Gengar, you'll need to go through the rigmarole of finding a partner to trade with, arranging a time to hop online with them, and completing the trading process. It's a minor inconvenience, but one that can slow down the completion of your Pokedex or the development of your perfect party (And in Legends: Z-A, the completion of the Shiny Charm).
