The pre-launch story of Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 was one of strife. Innumerable delays, regular staffing changes, and even a change of development studio meant there were major questions about the game before it had even launched. Worries were then compounded when, just two months before its release, it was announced that the game would be locking two classes behind a premium purchase. Naturally, uproar followed, and the developers backtracked, but it set a dangerous precedent.

Launch came around, and things weren't much better. It currently sits at a 64 on OpenCritic and a 65 on Metacritic, much worse than the original's 80, and it received a 2.5/5 from us here at TheGamer. Things don't seem to have improved now that players have their hands on the game, either.

In less than 24 hours since launch, the game has received more than 2,100 reviews on Steam, sitting at a "Mixed" rating, with players warning that this very much isn't a Bloodlines game.

Of the 2,131 reviews for Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 on Steam, 1,216 are positive, while 915 are negative, giving it the platform's "Mixed" rating.
