It's that time of year again when everyone tries to figure out which game from the last 12 months has been their favorite. With time to spare, Final Fantasy 7 designer Naoki Hamaguchi has already made his decision, and like many of us, he thinks Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 should be crowned 2025's Game of the Year.
Hamaguchi was asked by GamesRadar+ which game would get his vote in 2025's GOTY race, and the designer, who worked on both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, had no qualms about nominating Expedition 33. "It's a really great game and would deserve game of the year," Hamaguchi said.
The FF7 designer didn't stop there, though. Hamaguchi went into a lot of detail, explaining why exactly he believes Sandfall Interactive's debut game stands tall in a year where, let's be honest, there are probably about ten games that, if they were to be awarded Game of the Year at The Game Awards this December, we'd collectively nod and say "Yeah, that's fair".
