If you were already alive and kicking it in the 1990s, you probably remember just how hyped the world was for The Matrix and Metal Gear Solid franchises (I do because I was too).
Since passionate fans always have quite a fertile imagination, it didn’t take long for speculations to pop up, saying that these two sagas would somehow come together in a new project.
While the idea may sound pretty impossible by now, it turns out that this crazy “what if” nearly became reality, with Hideo Kojima himself leading a video game adaptation of The Matrix.
When The Wachowskis Asked Konami To Let Kojima Make The Matrix
Looking back at reports and speculations from the time, most notably in NextGen magazines, the gaming media pointed out that talks between the directors Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski had actually entered talks with Konami about developing a Matrix video game.
This project was supposedly set to be led by none other than Metal Gear Solid’s team, led by Hideo Kojima himself. However, the idea never became a reality, reportedly being shut down by one of Konami’s executives before production could begin.
