Earlier today, it was reported that Amazon had begun a sweeping round of layoffs that would see around 30,000 people lose their jobs, with Amazon Game Studios firmly in the company's sights. It began after several New World fans noticed regular names in the game's official Discord had vanished, while several Amazon employees had claimed that the Irvine location for Amazon Game Studios (New World's developer) had essentially been closed down.
Now, it appears as though New World fans actually did have something to fear, as it has been announced via the game's official Twitter account that development on the game will cease following the release of Season 10 and the Nighthaven update, which have both been described as "thefinal content release forNew World on PC and consoles".
Amazon Games goes into greater detail about the decision in an accompanying blog post on the game's website, which claims that development is ending as it's "no longer sustainable to continue supporting the game with new content updates."
