Liara's Actor Had No Idea She Had Been Confirmed For Mass Effect 5

Mass Effect 5 was teased all the way back in 2020, confirming that the series would return after the disappointment of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Clearly wanting to win fans over, the teaser trailer featured a fan favourite returning character, Liara, seemingly now an Asari Matriarch.

Turns out, we're not the only ones who were surprised. Ali Hillis, who played Liara in the original Mass Effect trilogy, had no idea she was going to be confirmed for the sequel like that either. In fact, she didn't know about it until she was told to check out the teaser trailer herself.

Hillis shared this at a Mass Effect reunion panel at MCM Comic Con in London. Here, the cast were asked if they had begun work on Mass Effect 5.

"I have no idea, because it was just as big a surprise to me when someone sent me the video from The Game Awards," says Hillis.

Alix Wilton Regan (Samantha Traynor) and Jennifer Hale (Commander Shepard) then bring up that they have a Mass Effect group chat, which is where they shared the trailer with Hillis.
