PlatinumGames' Bayonetta franchise turned 16 this past week, and visionary creator Hideki Kamiya has brought his customarily insightful thoughts (RIP Super Sentai) to social media with aplomb. Unnamed "clients" repeatedly requested that the series-titled heroine be shown without her glasses. This, as it happens, is one thing among many that Kamiya-san was never, ever going to budge on.
One of the questions which Kamiya answered back on October 29 (Bayonetta 1's precise 16th-anniversary date) brought this into sharper focus as the director behind not just Bayonetta, but Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and more sought to clear up a bit of a perpetual misunderstanding... while solidifying just how passionately he defended the shapeshifting witch's right to sport those iconic spectacles.
Much obliged, Automaton, for catching these tweets, because I'd hate to have missed 'em. A fan on X recalled Kamiya uttering the following quote: "Bayonetta's glasses are like underwear, so they can't be removed." Quite the statement. And one which has proliferated across the net for over a decade, if my own memory isn't off-kilter here.
