With peak player counts at historic lows as interest only continues to dwindle, Bungie is reportedly planning to sunset Destiny 2 in the coming years to focus on the sequel.
This claim was originally made by @starsiza on X, but it was later corroborated by credible leaker and dataminer Colony Deaks (via The Game Post), who explained that they have been sitting on the information for a while now, but weren't planning to share any concrete details until the project had taken shape.
As they explained, "Destiny 3 is in extremely early development". Plans could and likely will change; it was reported just last year that Bungie was too focused on Marathon for Destiny 3, after all. Not to mention that, if these leaks are to be believed, Bungie could cancel Destiny 3 before it's ever announced, as was rumoured in 2024.
However, with the leak now out in the open, Colony Deaks told their followers that they will "share more info in the coming months as we wait on the larger-scale things to develop".
