Hollow Knight: Silksong had the unenviable task of living up the hype after making fans wait for so long. While not to the same extent, it's the same dilemma that will face GTA 6 and Half-Life 3 when (and if) they finally launch. However, it seems Team Cherry used all that time well, as Silksong was received well by fans and critics alike.
While the devs may be pleased with the overall result, winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025 is an entirely different conversation. We got quite a few bangers this year, but the way things are going, even the GOTY nominees think there's no other choice besides Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. In fact, Team Cherry is so sure about this that it won't be attending the awards ceremony at all.
Along with the likes of Hades 2, Death Stranding 2, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Silksong was nominated for Game of the Year 2025, but the devs feel like there's no point attending. They're sure Expedition 33 is going to win it. Besides that, it seems there's still more Silksong content to be worked on.
