Ahead of Bayonetta 3's launch in 2022, the Umbra Witch herself, Hellena Taylor, urged fans to boycott the game after being recast with Jennifer Hale, claiming that Platinum had only offered her a paltry $4,000 to record her lines. In a video slamming the developer, she urged fans to save their money and donate to several charities instead.
However, it would come to light that she had been offered roughly five times what she originally claimed, and that the deal instead fell apart when she tried to bargain for a six-figure paycheck. Taylor remained steadfast that this was an "absolute lie", but it wouldn't matter. In the following weeks, she found herself in the storm of an entirely new scandal.
