There are so many live services out that that the gaming industry seems to think that we have an infinite amount of time and storage space. Now, at least one of those issues has been addressed by Helldivers 2.
On PC, Helldivers 2 just got a huge update. Or, well, perhaps "huge" is the wrong word, because it's actually making Helldivers 2's installation size much, much smaller. 85 percent smaller, in fact, making it an overall size of 23GB.
As per developer Arrowhead, this was pulled off by collaborating with another studio, best known for PC ports of PlayStation games.
"The longer-term goal has always been to bring the PC installation size much closer in line with the console versions," reads a new blog post from Arrowhead. "We are happy to report that, thanks to our partners at Nixxes, we have reached that goal much sooner than expected. By completely de-duplicating our data, we were able to reduce the PC installation size from ~154GB to ~23GB, for a total saving of ~131GB (~85%)."
Arrowhead had previously explained how much of the bulky file size was due to the support of players using HDDs....
