There are plenty of reasons for countries to ban Roblox. Almost every second news story about the platform is how it's a breeding ground for child predators. However, Russia has banned the gaming platform for an all-together different reason. As reported by Reuters, the country's communications watchdog, Roskomnadzor, has said that it distributes extremist materials and "LGBT propaganda".
"Roskomnadzor has restricted access to the American internet service Roblox due to the discovery of mass and repeated distribution of materials promoting and justifying extremist and terrorist activity, calls for violent crimes, and propaganda of LGBT themes," said the agency in a translated statement (via RIA Novosti).
"Children are subjected to sexual harassment, intimate photos are coerced from them, and they are forced to engage in depraved acts and violence," continued Roskomnadzor. "Cases of such illegal behavior have long been widespread in both the US and Russia."
Speaking to Reuters, a Roblox representative said, "We respect the local laws and regulations in the countries where we operate and believe Roblox provides a positive space for learning, creation and meaningful connection for everyone."
