Hytale has risen from the dead. After being cancelled earlier this year, the game's creators at Hypixel bought the rights back from Riot Games, who had acquired the studio during development.
Now, it has an early access release date, and it's coming very soon. From January 13, 2026, fans will be able to play Hytale themselves - but they won't be accessing the game through Steam.
As spotted by Rock Paper Shotgun, this was revealed in a new FAQ for Hytale. Here, executive director Patrick 'Lyall' Derbic went over what we should expect from Hytale's early access launch next month.
"We want to spend our time in Early Access working with the community and improving the game, rather than overindexing on negative reviews from players that aren't as well-informed yet about what we are doing," the FAQ reads. "Steam is a great marketing tool but one that we might never need. This doesn't mean we will never be on Steam - just that we do not see the necessity of it yet."
