A major expansion launch for a live service titan like Destiny 2 always comes with immense anticipation. And high expectations naturally set the bar sky-high, but this also drastically increases the potential for a catastrophic drop if things don't go according to plan.

Sadly, that catastrophic drop seems to be exactly what has been happening with Renegades, Bungie’s latest expansion that is Star Wars-themed for the game, which is certainly getting people talking – but not exactly for the reasons that the developers were hoping for.

The Galactic Update Sets An Unwanted Record

According to SteamDB data, Destiny 2: Renegades has just debuted with shockingly low numbers, officially registering the worst simultaneous player launch in the entire history of the franchise.

The expansion, which curiously features a major Star Wars theme and had the potential to draw in new players, reached a peak of just 71,278 concurrent players on the platform.

As we speak, concurrent numbers remain worryingly low, currently hovering around the 40,000 player mark, suggesting that even the novelty of brand-new content wasn't enough to hold the attention of the existing player base. You can check the live stats right below:
