Burnout Successor Fires Entire Team After Publisher Cuts Funding

Three Fields Entertainment, the studio behind the open-world arcade racer Wreckreation, which launched in late October this year, has delivered harsh news regarding its future.

The studio, founded by former Criterion directors, promised to recapture the chaotic essence of the beloved Burnout franchise with its new title. But now, just weeks after its release, they had announced that its entire team had been placed under notice of redundancy, leaving the status of the company uncertain.

CEO Delivers Heartbreaking Message Regarding Studio’s Future

The difficult news was given by CEO and co-founder Fiona Sperry, who revealed the studio’s financial circumstances in a social media post she called “one of the hardest messages of her career”.

Sperry confirmed the layoffs, stating that the decision was “extremely difficult”, but there were no alternatives given the complex financial reality: “This is a heartbreaking moment for all of us”.

She went on to explain that the problem even precedes the launch of Wreckreation. Since the project was only finalized with the publisher's help (THQ Nordic), the studio faces a serious cash flow problem because the publisher must receive its share first, meaning it will take a while for them to receive any profits...
