Mortal Kombat 1 isn't exactly old. It launched in 2023, which, in modern live-service terms, is pretty much yesterday. Yet, its time in the EVO sun appears to have ended, and some (many) might find it all rather premature.

EVO 2026 is still six months away, but with the biggest fighting game tournament's lineup freshly announced, Mortal Kombat 1 is handily the most conspicuous absence. Street Fighter 6? Check, duh. Tekken 8? Check... duh. Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising? Virtual Fighter 5 REVO World Stage? Guilty Gear Strive? Under Night In-Birth Sys:Celes? Wouldn't be EVO 2026 without 'em. Mortal Kombat? Whozzat?

A private video just appeared in the Final Fantasy playlist the day before The Game Awards; is it Remake Part 3? FF14? Or even Final Fantasy 9?

Don't get me wrong. Mortal Kombat isn't the only surprise. I'm a bit stunned regarding the lack of Dragon Ball, but maybe that's just me. Marvel vs Capcom? Nope. Vampire Savior fans, don't worry. EVO's got you covered. And somehow, BlazBlue Centralfiction is back at it.
