Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis doesn't tend to top monthly gacha charts, or honestly, come anywhere close. But it's probably still making at least a bit of a mint. The FF7 brand is iconic in its own right, even outside the normative strong reception to its parent franchise. Sure, The First Soldier crashed and burned in a flash, but uh, launching a mobile-only battle royale in 2021 was a choice.
Gacha often lives or dies not on its name, however, but on its... proclivities. On the surface, Ever Crisis getting a NieR: Automata collaboration is the least surprising thing ever. Automata has had collaborations with everything under the sun as we approach nine years without a proper sequel. Seriously, check your refrigerator - at this point, there's a nonzero chance that 2B's face will greet you in the produce drawer.
Even the fact that the ostensibly Automata-themed NieR event now includes content from NieR Replicant doesn't stun me. Why should it? NieR is NieR. NieR sells. In fact, I would not say I'm surprised by Aerith's Kaine-themed outfit, so much as mildly facepalming. Because, as I said, proclivities.
