GLaDOS Herself Couldn't Get Through The First-Ever Portal Test Room, "I'm Sort Of A Technophobe"

GLaDOS is iconic for her unsettling enthusiasm towards inhumane testing, shuffling Chell through increasingly difficult puzzles until eventually our android overlord gives up and throws her into a wide-open room full of deadly turrets. But, as it turns out, GLaDOS herself struggled with the very first test chamber in Portal, nevermind the deadly turrets.

Of course, by GLaDOS, I mean beloved actor Ellen McLain, known not only for the murderous singing supercomputer, but also the Overwatch in Half-Life, the Broodmother in Dota 2, the Witch in Left 4 Dead, and the Administrator in Team Fortress 2, cementing herself as a Valve staple with some of the most recognisable voices throughout nearly all of the studio's games.

But, ironically, McLain is a self-prescribed "technophobe" and hasn't dabbled much in gaming, let alone Portal. "Do you know that I haven't played them?" McLain said in a new Fall Damage video. "My husband, John Patrick Lowrie, voice of the Sniper, has played the games. But when I tried to play Portal 1, I couldn't get out of the first level."

I'm sure the voice actor behind Chell is brilliant at Portal, though.
