Red Dead Redemption 3 isn’t any closer to being released, and no word of a hypothetical third entry in Rockstar’s Wild West epic is likely to be shared until after Grand Theft Auto 6. As far as open-world Wild West RPGs go, Red Dead Redemption and its sequel are the genre’s zenith. Of course, there haven’t been that many open-world Wild West RPGs to contend with Rockstar’s blockbusters, either.
Breach Studios’ Westlanders looks like it’ll be more than capable of scratching a few itches, and it’s arriving a lot sooner, according to the game’s Steam page. If any game has the potential to go toe-to-toe with Red Dead Redemption, let alone tide players over until the threequel, this survival Wild West sim could be it.
From the key art on its own, it’s quite easy to see how one might conflate Red Dead Redemption 2 and Westlanders. The latter appears to tell a similar story to Red Dead Redemption 2, following a band of people struggling to survive amid the Wild West’s ever-present dangers, such as ruthless bandits, hostile wildlife, perilous environments, and harsh climates.
