Canceled Resident Evil Game Is Finally Playable Thanks To Fans

Resident Evil fans are currently gearing up for the release of Resident Evil Requiem, but another treat has unofficially dropped in the meantime. 25 years ago, Capcom and company attempted an ambitious port of the original Resident Evil to the Game Boy Color. While the plug was pulled before release, fans have now made a nearly complete build of the game available to play.

Today, Games That Weren't shared the final build of Resident Evil for the Game Boy Color, which is estimated to be potentially 98% complete. It comes with a warning that it may not be completable, but a few hacks have been provided in the case of hang-ups. Although this isn't the first time that the GBC Resident Evil has been available in some form online, previous releases were further from the finish line.

The GBC port of Resident Evil is a surprisingly ambitious game, attempting to recreate the PS1 experience in generally loyal form on a significantly more limited system.
