According to Bethesda's Todd Howard in an interview with BBC, Fallout 5 will "be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening," which is the biggest update we've had on the game since... ever.
While Howard is largely doing the rounds to promote the new season of Amazon's Fallout television series, we got the news that the next game, whenever it releases, will line up canonically with the television series.
Exactly where Fallout 5 will be set remains to be seen, but the show focuses largely on the West Coast, so we could very well see the next game take us out that way.
As exciting as this may be, the news has certainly raised some eyebrows. For one thing, fans have pointed out Fallout 5 is probably so far away that the Amazon series could have long-since finished, so maybe planning brand synergy between the two at this stage is a little optimistic.
"I like the show, but it'll be forgotten by the time this game releases," writes one fan on Reddit. "I don't think the stars will keep signing on for season after expensive season."
