A trickle of Cyberpunk 2 news hasn't produced any concrete information on what to expect from the game – developer CD Projekt Red is preoccupied with releasing The Witcher 4 first – but a recent update makes a potential timeline for its release a little more clear. Formerly known as Project Orion, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is one of numerous projects underway at CDPR.
In November, CD Projekt Red mentioned in a financial report that its Boston-based studio was rapidly expanding as Cyberpunk 2 development ramps up. When compared to The Witcher 4's development process, according to Vice, this indicates that Cyberpunk 2 will "hit its full production in 2027." With a few years of development following that, it's more than likely that Cyberpunk 2 will be a next-gen release, coming to the PlayStation 6 and the next iteration of Xbox.
Even with a very generous, quite unlikely two years in full production, Cyberpunk 2 won't release until roughly 2029. This is well beyond the predicted next-gen release window, which is expected to be in either 2027 or 2028.
