Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are confused about a fish so rare that some consider it an urban legend. For a game that revolves around collecting, connecting, and customization, ACNH leaves so much to chance: which villagers move in, which fruit is native, and, perhaps most mysteriously, which fish you catch.

A player by the name of Bluesnow2222 on Reddit recently vented their frustrations at failing to catch a stringfish, claiming the species was so rare they believed it was "an urban legend." "In the last 2 days I've gone through 150 bait in the upper river levels at the correct time in the evening to no success and way too many black bass."

Tens of players chimed in to share their own experiences with the elusive stringfish, some of them claiming that it's not all that hard to catch one - you just need a little luck. "I got beginners luck on a mystery island," said lunar-soup. "Had no idea what I was doing, no bait, simple fishing rod. Didn't know it was that rare until recently!"
