When there's a Final Fantasy project, a lot of franchise fans look for Final Fantasy 9 representation first. It was just that impactful, and many of the character designs are still favorites to this day.

It helps that Square Enix brings FF9 back to the forefront every so often, including an update on a project in French magazine Écran Total, shared by a fan on Bluesky (via RPGSite). The catch? We'll have to wait until 2028.

Four years ago, Square Enix announced that Cyber Group Studios would be handling a Final Fantasy 9 anime. Sadly, the studio closed several months ago, but the anime is still happening. According to the Écran Total report, Euro Visual is now taking over the Final Fantasy 9 anime, set to debut in 2028. Square Enix has not publicly confirmed this report, but we've reached out for comment.

Not much is known about the Final Fantasy 9 anime so far, but we do have a synopsis. Here is a rough translation of the plot, via RPGSite:
