Over the last however many years, I’ve noted in places like the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast that I adore Masahiro Sakurai. He’s the man behind many hit Nintendo titles, and anytime he gets attached to a game, people are eager to see what it’s like. Furthermore, he’s one of the most humble and grounded people you’ll ever hear from, and a recent interview with 47 News over in Japan highlighted that when he talked about Kirby. The original title was what helped make him a “name” in the game industry, especially after its continued success on various Nintendo platforms, and yet, he was unbothered by how well it was doing:
You can see that statement personified in his latest game, Kirby Air Riders, which is out right now on the Nintendo Switch 2. The game was the sequel to a title from 20 years ago on the Nintendo GameCube, and Sakurai admitted that he put everything he could into the game for its launch, which is why there’s no DLC for it.
As such, with the game done, and Masahiro Sakurai’s mindset always about “challenging himself,” you have to wonder what he’ll do next.
