The Final Fantasy VII Remake saga has been a curious thing to see unfold. It was announced many years ago and took quite a while to come out. Then, when it did come out, it was only 1/3 of the intended tale that Square Enix wanted to tell. The first entry sold rather well, while its follow-up, Rebirth, had some inconsistencies on the sales front. While we wait for the third and final entry to be revealed, Director Naoki Hamaguchi noted to Famitsu that 2026 will “expand” what the first two games have done, and that the team will “maximize” efforts to ensure everyone can play them:
For those who haven’t heard, part of this initiative to bring the two remake titles to more gamers is by putting them on Xbox and Nintendo platforms. Right now, the Nintendo Switch 2 has a Final Fantasy VII Remake demo for you to enjoy, and it’s on Xbox, too. These words seem to indicate that the third title, regardless of its name, may be a multiplatform launch instead of being rooted on the PlayStation 5. If that is the case, that could be a huge boon to the title.
