Super Mario 64 just got a brand-new mod that lets you experience true chaos with up to 15 of your friends. The original 3D Mario game, Nintendo's 1998 release has since defined multiple generations of platforming games with its varied objectives and collect-a-thon progression.

Now, you can experience Mario 64 in a whole new way: multiplayer. Thanks to the "Super Mario 64 Co-op Deluxe" mod, first uploaded to GitHub by AgentXLP in November 2024, PC players can experience Mario 64 in cooperative multiplayer lobbies of up to 16 players (spotted by Dark Side of Gaming).

"Super Mario 64 Co-op Deluxe" offers, as the name implies, a co-op Mario 64 multiplayer experience for up to 16 people at a time. You can play through a variety of different game modes in a multiplayer lobby, competing with friends or strangers to be the first to the top of a platforming challenge, to pop other players' balloons a la Mario Kart battles, or avoid deadly lava floors before a timer runs out.

Really, it reminds me more of playing Garry's Mod than it does anything else in the Mario series. The variety of different game modes...
