The Legend of Zelda is one of the largest and most important franchises in gaming history, not only setting a new standard for action-adventure titles but also introducing brand-new mechanics that have been picked up by the entire industry. Several titles pay homage to the series, be they the classic entries or the newest installments. Now, in the light of Zelda’s 40th anniversary celebrations in 2026, a new game seems to be paying tribute to the iconic franchise.
A new indie game by the name Under the Island is a 2D action-adventure title that heavily resembles older Zelda games set in that style – unlike the more recent Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom games, for example. As seen on Steam, the title is developed by Slime King Games, and neither its release date nor its release window has been announced or teased just yet. Even so, this looks like a promising new game to look forward to, especially for Zelda fans.
