Well that took longer than planned. Over a decade ago in 2015 the developers behind one of the most popular Minecraft servers started work on its own voxel survival game, Hytale. The game was officially announced in 2018, Hypixel Studios was bought outright by Riot Game in 2020, development dragged on until Hytale was canceled in June last year, and then in November Hytale Studios reformed independently and announced no, Hytale isn't canceled after all. It's been a long trek from Hytale's start to today and there's years of work ahead, but finally, after all these years, the open world survival adventure is available to play in its earliest form.
A New Journey Into the Cubic Wilderness
"Earliest form" in this case means it's playable and looks great, with an excellent style in its not-as-blocky-as-Minecraft design, plus creative environments that look impressive even in the two hours of time that's all I've had to play so far. There's obviously a lot missing, such as a basic tutorial to get you on your crafting feet, but anyone who's played this type of game will have very little difficulty getting to grips with Hytale's systems.
