Sandbox RPG Hytale has confirmed that it's still targeting a console release, but we may have to wait quite a while before it makes its debut on PlayStation and Xbox. In development since 2015, Hytale is one of the most anticipated indie game releases of the decade, blending Minecraft-style aesthetics and building/crafting systems with deeper systems of RPG combat, exploration, and storytelling.

Hytale launched in early access earlier this week on January 13, but for the time being, it's only available for PC. In an extensive FAQ posted on Hytale's website, executive director Patrick "Lyall" Derbic says a console version is still coming, "but this requires a lot of work on backend systems, so it's not something we want to invest resources into right now. For now, we would like to focus on making a good game first."

Hytale is a full-game spinoff from the modded Hypixel Minecraft server. However, it's anything but a Minecraft clone; it incorporates several original mechanics, and is designed to play more as an RPG with building mechanics and a procedurally generated world than a full-on sandbox game.
