The upcoming God of War TV series from Prime Video has its Kratos, as Amazon MGM and Sony Pictures announced that actor Ryan Hurst has been tapped to play the Ghost of Sparta. Known for his roles in shows like Sons of Anarchy, Hurst is not new to the God of War franchise, as he previously appeared in God of War Ragnarok as the voice of Thor.

The God of War TV show is a joint production by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Despite its initial announcement in 2022, God of War has seen some bumps along the way. The project restarted development in 2024 after several key staff members departed the show. Amazon and Sony then brought in Ronald D. Moore as the lead showrunner. Moore later stated he was working on God of War scripts with Sony's Santa Monica Studio, including God of War series creative director Cory Barlog. Barlog is credited as an executive producer of the God of War TV show, alongside PlayStation executive Hermen Hulst. As of this writing, God of War is scheduled to begin filming in March 2026 in Vancouver.
