Chrono Trigger Officially Makes Surprise 2026 Return

Chrono Trigger is one of the best RPGs of all time. Understandably, that means fans are eager to get a new release for it, especially because it's been a while since that DS version came out (with a cool poster, no less). And while we're all still hoping to see a Chrono Trigger remake or remaster appear on a modern system, there's a new release from Square Enix that fans may want to get their hands on.

Chrono Trigger: Melodies Across Time is releasing in January 2026. It's available to preorder from the official Square Enix store right now. Comprised of 10 songs from the "CHRONO TRIGGER Orchestra Concert" in Tokyo, the CD album will cost you $32.99, plus shipping and taxes. It may not be the game people have asked for, but it's still a nice collectible item for fans.

Chrono Trigger is great, so it's no surprise people (yours truly included) want to play it on a modern console and are hopeful for a remake or remaster. Co-creator Yuji Horii raised hopes during an interview back in May at the Nepal Comic-Con, but Square Enix denied a remake was in the works, stating Horii's comments were mistranslated....
