Hytale has officially rolled out its first major update following the game's long-awaited early access release, introducing dinosaurs alongside a suite of other changes. The launch of the open-world survival game from developer Hypixel Studios has been one of the biggest stories in gaming throughout recent months, owing to its rocky development cycle. Hypixel first began development on Hytale back in 2015, with the game eventually being backed and even purchased by Riot Games in 2020 before ultimately being canceled in June 2025. However, Hytale's story did not end with the disappointing news of its cancellation.
Following Riot's official cancellation of Hytale, Hypixel Studios founder Simon Collins-Laflamme revealed he was working with Riot to re-purchase the rights to the game. The deal was eventually finalized in November 2025, with Collins-Laflamme announcing that the developer would be quickly moving to launch the game for fans in early access. Hytale made its official debut on January 13 as a standalone release, with fans and critics already praising both Hytale's gameplay and environments following its early access debut. Now, Hytale has already received a major update, adding a plethora of new content including some particularly notable mobs.
