Rumors of a Chrono Trigger remake are circulating online again following the game's 30th anniversary last year. Released in 1995, Chrono Trigger is often considered one of the greatest RPGs of all time, with a millennia-spanning story and an incredible roster of video game luminaries behind it.
The possibility of a Chrono Trigger remake has been raised numerous times over the 30 years since its release, and has reared its head again after fans discovered as-yet unannounced figures depicting Crono and Marle at the Chrono Trigger 30th Anniversary Orchestral Concert (spotted by healingtwo_ on Reddit). Nothing's confirmed, but some fans are cooking up a theory.
The figures, which are made by frequent Square Enix collaborator Form-ism, depict an unpainted, all-gray Crono and Marle. Crono strikes a heroic pose, with one hand on his sword and the other on his hip, while Marle spreads her arms wide and leans on her crossbow.
In the original Reddit post, healingtwo_ suggests these figures could signal an upcoming remake. They point to other recent remakes of Square Enix games, like 2023's Super Mario RPG and next month's Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, both of which use a toy-like aesthetic....
