The new Xbox Developer Direct has finally revealed more details for the upcoming Fable reboot, including the long-awaited release date for the game. Originally unveiled in 2020, the upcoming installment comes courtesy of Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon series.
Per the Xbox Developer Direct livestream on YouTube, Fable will release on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation in Autumn 2026. The new game promises a wide variety of features, including fully customizable characters and open-world exploration. It also promises a newly revamped morality system, focusing less on good versus evil and more on the subtle impact of witnessed deeds.
Playground is intent on stressing the game's allegiance to the classic Fable vibe, with a focus on the possibilities of what it means to be a hero. Classic enemies like Hobbes and Trolls are returning, and Playground assures fans that there will be "quite a few chickens."
