The director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has provided an update on how the process of bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch 2 is going, with some promising news. Though Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth originally launched back in early 2024, and the Switch 2 came out in late 2025, fans are currently still waiting for the game to arrive on Nintendo's newest console.

Final Fantasy 7 has something of a peculiar history with Nintendo, as the original 1997 game was the first title in the franchise to launch on a non-Nintendo system. Final Fantasy got its start on the NES, eventually branching out onto the Super Nintendo. However, Final Fantasy 7's development pivoted to the Sony PlayStation instead, largely due to the system using CD-ROMs, allowing for more flexibility and storage. Though Final Fantasy 7 Remake skipped the original Switch, the game finally arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 earlier in January.
