2026 hasn't exactly gotten off to the best start for PlayStation Plus. The monthly Essential free games for January were delivered in the form of Need for Speed Unbound, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and Core Keeper, and were ultimately met with a pretty tepid response. This seems slightly unfair to me, given they're all pretty great games.
Meanwhile, February's Essential lineup is being headlined by boxing sim Undisputed, which has gone down about as well as a fart in a lift. It's not a great time for Essential subscribers, then. Fortunately, gamers on PlayStation Plus Extra still have plenty of options, including one of the best open-world games around (according to the fans).
When I think of iconic open-world games, my mind usually goes to Elden Ring, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, or Red Dead Redemption 2. I can honestly say I'd personally never have put Days Gone very high on the list. But PlayStation Plus subscribers genuinely believe it's a "peak" open-world experience, and if they're having a great time with it, I wouldn't dream of taking that away from them.
