For some, Borderlands 4 came and went. It received some acclaim from critics, but it didn't seem to have the staying power its predecessors enjoyed.
Now, that tail seems to be shrinking. As of today, as per Variety, Take-Two has "paused" development on the Switch 2 edition of Borderlands 4.
Development on the Switch 2 port of Borderlands 4 has been "paused," and its state is currently unknown. While Borderlands 4 launched in September 2025, the Switch 2 edition was delayed and still hasn't been released.
Here's the full statement from Take-Two, the parent company of Gearbox: "We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU. Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game. We’re continuing to collaborate closely with our friends at Nintendo. We have ‘PGA Tour 2K25’ coming out and ‘WWE 2K26’ [for Switch 2], and we’re incredibly excited about bringing more of our titles to that platform in the future.”
