Xbox Officially Kills Off Fan-Favorite Franchise

A once beloved RPG series is quietly being carted off to the wood chipper. Not with a fancy funeral or a CGI trailer goodbye, but as a blink, and you'll miss it, part of an interview. Yes, sadly, The Outer Worlds series will not be going forward with a third game. Obsidian managed to release three games last year but only one of them was successful, leading to some tough decisions within the company.

Head of Obsidian Feargus Urquhart, spoke in an interview with Bloomberg about the company's successes and failures in recent years and what it meant for the company going forward. The bottom line, though, is that any players who were hoping for The Outer Worlds 3 will be bitterly disappointed. Apart from continuing support for The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian have no plans to continue the franchise.

With both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 failing to hit the company's sales targets in 2025, something had to give.
