Cars are versatile and do a lot of things well. Whether it's carring people or transporting goods, traveling to whatever destination catches your fancy, sticking to roads or, with a good suspension and the right tires, head into the wilderness, cars can be edited into whatever shape the user needs. Trains, on the other hand, do exactly one thing really well, and that's move forward or backwards down the track. Sure, they too can tranports people and goods, but where there are no tracks, there's no train. But then the world ended and everyone moved to domed cities, and the people who decided to live on the outside decided to see what the beasts of the rails could really do.
