Over the years, Ubisoft has managed to develop a reputation for its open world games, and whether you love them or hate them, you tend to know what you're getting when the publisher announces a new game, regardless of the franchise. Big towers to climb, lots of markers on a map, and skill trees out the wazoo have been Ubisoft's bread and butter these past few years, but Star Wars Outlaws is trying to set itself apart.
This is according to creative director Julian Gerighty, who explained in a recent interview with Gamesindustry.biz (thanks GamesRadar) that the team behind Star Wars Outlaws is "hyper conscious" of Ubisoft's typical approach to open world games. Unlike the developers of Ubisoft's other open world offerings, Star Wars Outlaws' developer is Massive Entertainment, and while it's still owned by the publisher, it isn't considered as one of Ubisoft's "in-house" studios.
Star Wars Outlaws looks at the adventurous side of Star Wars and lets us roam desert planets on the run from bandits.
Gerighty goes on to explain that Massive Entertainment is separated enough from Ubisoft, and has been through many different experiences, that fans shouldn't be concerned about Star Wars Outlaws feeling too...
