The tank probably needed a gun, back when the world wasn't broken. It most likely shot high-powered shells against other tanks and assorted targets, or maybe it was surplus that never saw action. Whatever its history may have been, the gun has been removed, replaced with a snakey-arm grabber used to load and unload items from the bed that's been grafted onto its back section. Vehicles of war aren't much use in a world where people are in such short supply, and the winters are getting longer and colder each year. A tough, reliable powerhouse that can shuttle cargo between settlements and collect useful scrap along the way, though, is a different and much more helpful beast.
