Days before Marathon's release, Bungie has revealed the extraction shooter's first post-launch roadmap. Following a lengthy Server Slam playtest, which let players experience the early portion of Marathon's progression, the full game will release on March 5. Its live-service content model has now been illuminated in more detail, complete with a divisive wipe mechanic.
Marathon's first two in-game seasons have been revealed by Bungie, letting us know what to expect in the game's first six months. Season 1, Death is the First Step, and Season 2, Nightfall, will each "last about three months." Seasons will add free content for all Marathon players, "including gear, Runner shells, zones, events, and more." Like other extraction shooters before it, Marathon will impose a progress wipe between seasons, stripping players of their "gear, contract progression, faction progression, and player level."
If you participated in Marathon's Server Slam, you will have a good idea of what Season 1 offers, though progress will no longer be gated in the full release.
