The release of Fallout 5 is absolutely going to be several years away at the very least, with Bethesda Entertainment mostly focused on finally getting The Elder Scrolls VI into players' hands for the time being.
That said, the release of the second series of the excellent Prime Video adaptation has created a whole new appetite for the existing games, and new experiences set within the same universe.
If you aren't familiar with the early history of the franchise, two main series games were released before Bethesda got their hands on it, and a third was in the works (codenamed Project Van Buren), before financial issues led to its cancellation. Though that sequel never saw the light of day, many of the developer's plans survived, and a version of those ideas built inside Fallout: New Vegas is about to debut for the first time.
Fallout: The New West is a total conversion mod for New Vegas that brings to life as many of original developer Black Isle Studios' plans as possible. It's an incredible idea, and a highly ambitious one, and you'll be able to give it all a try very soon.
